A letter
From Dr Edward Smith Z.R.5.
I entertain the highest opinion of the fitness of Mr F. Manning for the vacant chemical appointment at Guys Hospital: As a practical chemist he is much esteemed by men, Fellows of the Royal Society competent to judge.
I am also desirous to add that his readiness to aid scientific investigation would be of the greatest service to any of the Professors who desire to pursue Physiological and Chemical research, and thus add to the credit of the school.
